BUDDHISM BASICS page 32 The Middle WayBuddha spent 7 years studying various religions and spiritual techniques. He pursued these religions with ultimate focus and effort. Whatever a religion had to offer -- Siddhartha probably uncovered it. Eventually, he tired of having to sift through the religions and spiritual practices to find useful knowledge. Buddha decided that spirituality shouldn't be so difficult or elusive. Buddha realized that we were born spiritual. Life, tragedy, hardship, bad influence, and ignorance all poison the purity we're born with. Buddha realized that enlightenment was "Peace Of Mind." Don't spend too much time pursuing your spirituality. (Don't pray all day. Have a life.) Don't spend too little time pursuing your spirituality. (Don't live a decadent and immoral life.) Find that place in the middle. Have enough pleasure in your life to satisfy your carnal and human desires. Have enough morality in your life to limit your carnal and human desires so that all persons benefit from your interaction. Coincidentally, Bodhidharma, pictured above to the left, supposedly meditated in his cave for 6 or 7 years resulting in the creation of Zen Buddhism and Shaolin Kung Fu. Coincidentally, Buddha Zhen, trapped in Utah, lived an almost ascetic life as a Mr. Mom, only a couple friends... but he wrote dozens of books, recorded several albums, formed a nonprofit Tai Chi association, and created Shaolin Zen and Shaolin Chi Mantis. Enough isolation. I'm ready to create in the midst of a wonderful wild traveling life now. My consolation over the last decade has been to enjoy the peaceful, semi quiet tranquility, of a private life without much stress and a great deal of personal freedom. Freedom. The other day I decided to stop complaining about not having employees, more partners, more students, and more connections to other people's lives. I realized, 'I am free.' I realized, my isolation was a freedom. I understood, my freedom was my fortune. I'm free.
